The Ambulance Squad was established in 1967 after the legislative changes prohibited funeral directors from providing ambulance service. The first ambulances of this time where equipped with basic first aid supplies. The ambulance personnel at this time where trained as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Also at this time there was only one level of EMT, today in New York State there are 4 levels; EMT-D (Defibrillation), EMT-I (Intermediate), EMT-CC (Critical Care), and EMT-P (Paramedic).
The EMT-I, EMT-CC and EMT-P are considered ALS (Advance Life Support). There also many other training programs that the EMT in New York State can take along with the one listed here.
Our Ambulance Service is considered an ALS unit. The ambulances are an emergency room on wheels. We carry all types of equipment that is necessary to save a life in any situation. We also work with the local fire departments on many of our calls. They provide extrication and lifting strength, landing zones for different Helicopter Ambulance Services and other helpful tasks so that we can carry out our EMT work.
We are affiliated with the local hospital. This hospital and most of the crew provides and helps out with extensive EMT training not only for our members but for other Ambulance Services and Fire Departments that are located near by.
Though most of our members are trained EMT's, our drivers are trained as CFR (Certified First Responders) or First Aid trained with CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
I enjoy working with all of the members of our squad. They are a wonderful group of people and we provide the best care possible in the emergency care field.
Our squad is one of a very few hospital based ambulance service in New York State.
Sorry there are no pictures of us in action. I will not post them. But in time I will have pictures of some of our drills we have.
Well everyone, have a wonderful day or evening, which ever the case might be. Take care and be happy always.
